Alex Krycek: the Anti-Mulder

[Krycek and Marita from Requiem]

In "Requiem," we see Krycek and Marita as the sort of anti-Mulder and anti-Scully.

Krycek is in prison again - this time, in Tunisia. We don't know how he got there, but it was CSM who did it. CSM admits it: "For trying to sell something that was mine, was it not?" (This could be all kinds of things. The digital tape in "Piper Maru"? The vaccine in "Patient X"?) CSM, who is dying, sends Marita to get Krycek out of prison. He has a mission for them.

An alien ship has collided with a Navy aircraft, in Bellefleur, Oregon. CSM sees this as a chance to rebuild the project...if Krycek and Marita can retrieve the UFO.

Mulder, Krycek, Skinner, Scully, and the Lone Gunman end up working together in this episode. Mulder would rather beat up Krycek than work with him, but Skinner and Scully persuade him. But they don't succeed in finding the ship. Instead, Mulder ends up kidnapped by aliens.

It's not quite clear what Krycek's role and motivation here is. Is he somehow behind Mulder's abduction? Was he really trying to help Mulder and Scully, or was he just trying to get revenge against CSM?

In the end, Krycek does get his revenge: he pushed CSM, in his wheelchair, down the steps. (Though he doesn't check if he's really dead before he leaves.)
